|JAPANESE LANGUAGE LEVEL||Beginner|
|ENGLISH TEACHING EXPERIENCES||Served as a volunteer ESL tutor for several years with the Orange
County Library System in Orlando, FL.
Currently working as an English teacher for children and adults in Takarazuka.
|TYPE OF LESSONS||Basic Conversational English, Travel English,
Pronunciation, General English.
|LESSON OUTLINES||My goal as an English teacher is to get the student to do most of the
talking. I begin with a simple greeting and progress from there,
asking about them personally (but not privately), and inviting them to
ask me questions in return to get a conversation going.
I usually use a text book or work book with the student and have them take brief notes and ask questions as we study. I think spelling and writing really helps reinforce the material being learned.
I also like to share amusing children's books (e.g. Dr. Seuss, Shel Silverstein, or 'Where the Wild Things Are', etc.) as fun, beginning reading material with illustrations. These serve as well for basic Phonics practice.
For more advanced or experienced students I may dispense with text books and instead share news or magazine articles, poetry, travel experiences or interesting things we've read to spark the conversation. I always encourage note-taking and writing.
